The Day in Review …
Flashing police lights, roaming water buffalo, dusty roads, green rice fields, glowing faces, giggling girls, vibrant orange monks on bicycles, wood fires, the scent of cooking rice … a marathon in Northern Laos.
Close to 500 teachers, students and members of the Women’s Union donned running shoes (or moreso thongs and socks) to support the Luang Nam Tha Teacher Training College on 08 March 2007 – International Women’s Day.
The 42km winner? The beautiful boy from the provinces who has been running 27km every day (enroute to check his animal traps) in training … A time under 3 hours.
Smileable moments? The group of ladies from the Women’s Union who have been putting aside their morning household chores for the last two weeks and running around town in training … AND they completed the full 10km’s running.
Heartwarming moments … the two 14yr old boys who could barely walk the last 7km’s of the marathon from leg cramps, but refused to ride in the car. They finished the final km’s, an earphone in one ear each, holding hands and smiling all the way.
Money raised? Over $4100 … with money still coming in.
Director Khamton, Deputy Directors Khamsuck and Nolasing and I wish to pass on our deepest heartfelt thanks for the financial and moral support of some many of you. Thank you to individuals as well as Sticky Fingers Restaurant, Vientiane College, Jazzy Brick, Vientiane Women’s Union and World Vision for your support.
